Owl Fox and Hare

Owl, Fox and Hare (Click for more information)

A magical journey with three of our most beloved and mystical of creatures. The owl, fox and hare are entwined in our stories and dreams as they flit in the dusky inbetween worlds furnishing our myths and folktales throughout the ages. We have some of our most magical artists taking inspiration from them in this show.

Rebecca Stockburn

New to the gallery this year Rebecca Stockburn lives on the Welsh and Shropshire border with her partner, and cat. Rebecca's paintings have both an ephemeral and intricate quality. Work is highly detailed and mediums can include watercolour, gold, gouache and pen. A fine art and history background with teaching experience has seen Rebecca sit deeply with the myths and legends of the British Isles and particularly the ancient stories from Wales. You will find historical costuming, medieval illuminations and all manner of totemic creatures playing a role in her work.

Rebecca is collaborating with archaeologist Caroline Malim on a book project which delves into the archaeological and historical origins of site specific British myths and legends. We think you will appreciate the beautiful narratives that play out in her work.

Amanda Clark

A long time collaborator with the gallery next and Amanda is very at home with these creatures who find their way into her work often. A prolific painter in the wee small hours, weaving magic from her long walks and forages in the English countryside. Amanda goes by the moniker Earthangelarts and her preferred medium is Acrylic, although porcelain wall hangings, painted boxes, gilding and wooden bowls find their way into her realm too. A distinctive dreamlike quality is instantly recognisable whether it is an animal portrait or rolling landscape, making Amanda highly collected around the world.

Cherry Ambrose

AKA Cherry Felts makes a welcome return this year with her gorgeous sculptures. Cherry works mainly in felt and occasionally uses reclaimed wood and textiles to enhance her pieces. Drawing inspiration from the natural world around her Highland home, she is particularly drawn to Scottish woodland animals.

Sally Bruce Richards

Another new artist this year . Sally makes her "Gilded Treasures" in her studio on the remote Hebridean island of Mull, her work is only available on the island and a few select mainland galleries so we are delighted to share the magic. Sally uses Gold, Copper and Silver Leaf along with Rice Paper as the backdrop to her whimsical nature scenes depicting our best loved wildlife. Hares wait under windswept trees, with watchful foxes and swooping owls, there is always a tiny detail to catch your eye.

Jane Jensen Watt

You may notice our Jane has had a name change. Big congratulations to Mr & Mrs Watt. Whilst celebrating her recent nuptials Jane managed to fit in a glorious new piece for the show, so we have examples of her intricate ballpoint pen work and also a lovely piece on her textures OSB board with Acrylic for something very signature. When we think wildlife, this amazing artist has to be part of team Owl, Fox and Hare.

Jodie Bews

Another gallery regular and Jodie has been working around the clock to make her exquisite collection for "Owl, Fox and Hare". Her expressive and saturated watercolours are huge on character and Jodie takes all of her beautiful toadstool reference photos herself.
Jodie is just back from a short trip to Orkney to see her giant hare on the "Big Hop" public art trail. We are delighted to have some of her other hares in this show along with owls and foxes.

Locals will know of Jodie's shop in Alford which supports local makers and artists. There you will find her own work and a dizzying array of gift ideas if you are able to visit.

Anita Inverarity

Our curator for this show Anita has included two of her pieces from our storage.

"Shrine" and "Spring" are the remaining works from a larger solo exhibit called "Charmed Wildlife"

Many of this series will be included in a brand new "inspirational messages deck" which Anita is authoring for Animal Dreaming Publishing in Australia. The deck will be available worldwide when complete. We thought it would be wonderful to show them with their new Owl and Hare friends.
