Musa - Helena Reis
Helena Reis was born and currently lives in Lisbon, Portugal with her husband and two children.
She started to draw and paint at a very young age, creating her own fantasy world.
It was only in 2005 that she began to take art seriously, developing her own techniques as she is entirely self-taught.
Helena is known for her unique style, a mix of creepy, dark and cute, representing personal fears and nightmares. It has become a way of overcoming self doubts, by portraying her darker side in a lighter perspective.
To create her artwork Helena uses traditional mixed media on wood or paper, including watercolor pencils, watercolors, acrylics, gouache and oils.
Helena is also the founder/owner of Penumbra Gallery, exhibiting new and established artists, with a focus on pop surrealism and contemporary styles in every medium.
To me 'Musa' is a retrospective, an homage to my artistic roots, a fragment of myself. It also represents the many faces of my muse.
For this show I allowed myself to not be perfect, not a single sketch was drawn, every piece was created without a plan, I just let my hands, brushes and pencils create and the result is a collection of little muses, painted from the heart. - Helena
