The Midnight Garden gathers some of our favourite painters for a celebration of botanics and beauties under the stars, in the twilight and at dusk. Perfect to bring joy in the dark as we slip into the long nights here in the north.
Bob Doucette (USA)
Bob Doucette’s whimsical and highly saturated paintings come from the world of dreams. Sometimes bordering on surreal, his imagery is a product of a decade of theatre work, puppetry and twenty-five years in the world of animation. As an animation director he was responsible for many well known animated children’s programs for PBS and Warner Bros including Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs. His independently animated films won him many prestigious awards and honors and his MFA thesis film "Pink Triangle" (the first animated film to depict the persecution of homosexuals by the Nazis) is in the permanent collection at the New York Public Library.
As well as being a prolific painter who is collected worldwide Bob is also a doll maker, his Ben Franklin doll, created for the White House Christmas tree in 1999, is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian. Many of his dolls are in the private collection of Demi Moore and have been featured in books, magazines articles and TV programs. Bob earned a BFA at Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA at CalARTS and studied both illustration and animation. He was born in Waterville Maine and at present lives in Peoria with his husband Tom and his feline family.
We are always delighted when Bob takes time from his busy schedule to paint for The Inverarity Gallery and his collection for The Midnight Garden is beautiful and breath-taking as always.
Ingrid Tusell (SPAIN)
Ingrid Tusell is a Barcelona born artist now living in the mountains of Teruel, Spain in a converted Mill House. An internationally exhibited artist she paints the divine feminine and warrior sprit of our female lineages. Ingrid's work is embellished with plant and animal life depicting the beauty and often the decay of the natural world in a primal and decadent style. Ingrid considers her pieces to be the mystic cry of the soul in all it's colour and splendour.
It is such a pleasure to welcome Ingrid back to the gallery this year for "The Midnight Garden" and she has two exquisite pieces available in this show.
Lea Barozzi (USA)
Lea Barozzi is a native of Portland, Oregon who weaves a painted narrative of inner worlds through delightful contemplative maidens and intricately detailed botanics. Lea's work is collected and exhibited internationally and graces many commercial projects and album covers. When not working on her art Lea is drawn to the sea where she enjoys the surf with her family, bringing the inspirations of nature back into her studio. Defined by beautiful lines and captivating compositions, Lea sees her art as both meditative and absorbing as the eye is draw across each area in turn.
As one of our cherished artists since the early days of the gallery it is our pleasure to present two beautiful new symbolic pieces for "The Midnight Garden"
Rossella Paolini (ITALY)
Rossella Paolini is an Italian illustrator and painter who has exhibited her works internationally. Inspirations comes from Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends, Science Fiction and Visionary Exploration in her own unique and whimsical style. Rossella's medium of choice is Acrylic and colour plays an important role in her work which is both playful, highly detailed and psychedelic.
Rossella has created an amazing portrayal of "A Midsummer's Night Dream" for our step into "The Midnight Garden" and we can't think of a better narrative to weave the magic of this exhibit together. You can also see several available works in our featured artists section depicting "Legendary Women" from the mythic realms.
Karla Pereira (SPAIN)
Karla Periera is a painter based in Zaragoza (Spain). Karla received a BA in History of Art in 2016 from the University of Valencia before embarking on her career as a full time artist. Karla's work reflects the beauty and power of femininity and the preciousness of all creatures, creating a universe where dreamy atmospherics juxtapose with exaggerated proportions. Karla's unique style blends the aesthetics of the old masters from the Renaissance, Baroque and European periods with new contemporary genres such as pop surrealism and romantic fantasy.
It is lovely to welcome Karla back this year after solo shows in both US and Japan. There are two gorgeous paintings in "The Midnight Garden" and they include Karla's signature antique framing which she is so adept at collecting to fit perfectly with her works.
Leila Ataya (NEW ZEALAND)
Leila Ataya is an award winning painter based in New Zealand. Leila started her art education in Russia studying disciplines such as Drawing, Painting, Palekh (Lacquered Miniature Painting) and Icon Writing. After moving to New Zealand Leila continued her art studies and received a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Auckland in NZ in 2001. Leila has her work in private collections across the globe and established her own art school in 2004 where she teaches both adults and children. With a highly unique style and art language Leila has gathered a discerning following who delight in her surreal and fantastical worlds.
It is always a surprise and great pleasure to see what Leila has created for our shows. A welcome return after a busy period which included a solo with Dorothy Circus Gallery in London. Leila has created three new paintings for our show.
Kyra Wilson (USA)
Kyra Wilson is a full time painter residing in Vermont Krya's paintings can be found in private collections throughout the world and have been published in various magazine articles over the years including Thrice Fiction Magazine. Kyra has a magical realism style which spans many unrestricted subject matters from anthropomorphism to abstract. Inspirations and passions include Fairy Tales and Mythology, Animals and Haunted Houses. Recently Kyra joined the international collective at Bad Apples who create to monthly themes and when not creating for personal projects she undertakes pet commissions.
This is Kyra's first showing with the gallery. We are delighted to have one of her beautiful owl pieces created especially for "The Midnight Garden"
Brynn Elizabeth (USA)
Brynn Elizabeth is a figurative fantasy artist living with her husband and young children in Eastern Oregon, USA. Brynn is inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds her home often resulting in depictions of strong, mystical, female figures in dense forests or near rugged mountains capturing the dramatic light of the landscape. Other influences include mythology, the Pre-Raphaelites, and classic fantasy art from the 20th century. Brynn creates her beautiful paintings using an array of ever-evolving mediums, ranging from oil to gouache, and acrylic to graphite. When not painting and being a mum Brynn likes to head to the mountains to go foraging, tend to her plants and create her own bath and body products. Her stunning maidens can be found in homes around the world and in gallery exhibits. Brynn has been a long standing member of The Bad Apple Artist Collective creating new works for their monthly themes also.
Brynn has created a gorgeous piece for "The Midnight Garden" and it is always a joy to welcome her exceptional figurative work to our shows.
Helena Artbook (UK)
Helena Artbook is a surreal painter from London UK. Her rich sumptuous paintings portray divine and dreamy women with a sensitive and emotive aura. Helena's paintings evoke conversations about life, love, trauma and transformation, very much centred around self care and expansion. Helena works in oil and also enjoys graphite drawing, her works can be found in private collections throughout the world. Helena's current projects include preparation for a solo exhibition in Europe.
We are so pleased to include three stunning paintings for "The Midnight Garden" from the gallery inventory. These pieces of Helena's bloom perfectly under the stars in what we think you will agree is an exceptional display of artistry.
