Description

Wrapped in Beltane Blessings
Kay Reid (@Hamespun) – Scotland
Medium: Hand-spun Corriedale Wool and unknown fibre (approx 90% wool, 10% unknown)
Art size: 44 x 180 cm / 17 x 70 inches

A vibrant, hand-crafted stole.

Hand-spun and hand-woven on a rigid heddle loom with two heddles.
This piece is designed using a complex diamond twill structure which produces two distinct sides: one side tartan-based which speaks of its origin here in the north east of Scotland, subtle twill patterns emerge the longer you look; on the other side, the yarn flows in ribbons of colour along the length of the weaving.

Inspired by the colours of nature around Beltane, this shawl holds the essence of May in the beauty of those colours bursting anew from the Aberdeenshire countryside.

Created with patience and great care using traditional crafts and skills, this is one of a kind, a true slow craft piece.
