This piece is designed to be both decorative and practical. Practical in that it has been made to be used in the workings of planetary magic by harnessing the energies of the days and planetary hours; ie working with energies to guide the fates. It was inspired by the work of Thomas Agrippa (1486 – 1535) who was a German Renaissance polymath, physician, legal scholar, alchemist, soldier, knight, theologian, and occult writer. Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy was published in 1533 and drew heavily upon Kabbalah, Hermeticism, and Neoplatonism & his work was widely influential among esotericists of the early modern period. Most of the inspiration for this piece came from book 2.
The piece consists of 16 separate pieces;
7 are representations of the essence of the planetary spirits, each with their alchemical symbol inlaid into the back of them in a white slip, each body is coated in a heavy layer of Iron Oxide because Iron has traditionally been used in magical workings to anchor, bind, and channel energetic forces. Each mask upon the spirit is glazed with the colours associated with the days of the week all individually made and honouring the work of Thomas Agrippa.
Each spirit has their corresponding planetary sigils, carved and inlaid into a ceramic disc and made to the same size as the base of the figures. Again a thick layer of iron oxide has been carefully coated around the inlaid sigil.
There is black ceramic disc with seven circles cut out that can hold either the planetary spirit or the sigils depending on favoured configuration, and a bowl that is designed to be placed in the centre of the disc that can again either hold sigil, spirit, or pillar candle. Both have been coated in a heavy layer of copper oxide as it is magickly it is thought of as a conduit that moves, amplifies, and transmits spiritual energies.
